This Zola Jesus album is basically a thought experiment: what would happen if you dropped the (impossible) lovechild of Siouxsie Sioux and Patrick Wolf into a Black Forest fairytale with nothing but couture fashion to wear? Not a particularly conventional thought experiment, perhaps, but Conatus would be the result nevertheless.
