…and I’m still thinking in terms of school years. I guess working for a university will fuck with your head like that. In any case, what a bizarre year it’s been for me. I’ve not ever had one with quite so many ups and downs. Let me tell you, it’s really been a year of the latter, too. All things considered, though, I have quite a bit that I’m happy for…and since I usually use this blog as a vehicle for complaint, I thought I’d switch it up with a nice list of things I’m glad for this year:
- a beautiful home of my own filled with all my favourite things
- a great coworker, friend and fellow passenger on the expressway to hell, Hannah
- giant purple, natural wood crayons – and the Sonya that gives them to me
- Angelar…even when we are fighting, we have more fun than two people should
- even though she eats everything from plaster to track pants, Lolar is a pretty cool pet
- the sound of my own shoes walking the sidewalk followed me to Rome this year
- I can cook and finally live close enough to a Wegman’s to really enjoy that talent
- my swanky means of conveyance, Klaus, who makes me smile (until I fill him)
- sometimes I even get to see Dusty or Hoover…outside of the ARoB lounge
- oh yeah…my family, which has been stellar at keeping me moving in so many ways
Of course there is more, but this seems to cover the high points.
Wow…being positive feels really odd. Uh, I think I’m going to go shout snarky things at orphaned kittens or something…
…Mamie Van Doren’s Website, you can take a look at something very special she has just posted. Scroll down the page and you’ll see the vector art tribute that I made with her image…she liked it so much, that she added it to her site.

I sure do wish I could be enlightened on this topic. Apparently there is only one correct answer and none of my ideas about what it might be are it. Dammit all.
This one is a dish I eat at least three times a week. I’m absolutely addicted to the flavors and textures that combine in this salad. It works as a full lunch or a nice side with dinner and comes in well under $3.00/serving. Enjoy.

Tonight’s recipe from my collection of favourites is actually a full meal. That’s value added for you, the reader. If you make the amount specified, you’ll have 2 servings worth of food for about $4.50/serving. See how I care about you? Boundless love, I’m telling you…

…now with 100% more bullet points!
- relaxed at Seven Springs resort with my mom & sister
- watched some very talented young dancers
- saw Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater inside & out
- took my mom out to lunch
- drove Klaus, as opposed to just commuting in him
- picked daffodils in Talleyrand Park at midnight
Back to work tomorrow. Hopefully you’ll all enjoy your weekends as much as I enjoyed mine. As random as it was…
Special bonus! Fortified with photographic evidence.

My view of the room while waiting on the bed for anyone to come back from wherever they were.

The bounty of my daffodil hunt in Talleyrand.
Once upon 2002-ish, MTV had an amazing show called Rich Girls starring Ally “Horsehead” Hilfiger and Jamie “My Face is Melting” Gleicher. The show was beyond wonderful in all of its vapid, pointless whining and bickering. It featured some of the best conversations about the merits of cargo pants in the Midwest – “farmers actually put things in the pockets!” – and panics over dogs with pneumonia. Really, it had everything…for a whole ten episodes.
Well, Angelar and I haven’t forgotten. Through the magic of Photoshop, Ally and Jamie have been reunited:

Please, visit the episode guide, read the bios, revel in the photos and hope that a DVD comes out soon…at Rich Girls on MTV.com
We’ve reached a new level of dork-osity at my job. This is me with my coworkers. After work. Yes, we gathered after work for this madness. And, yes…we were excited about it. I know…I know.

(I know.)
Recipes! Mainly, I thought it might be kinda fun to start making these little recipe cards for the things I eat most often. Also, a number of you dear readers are new to living on your own (even our fair Dusty has gotten an aparment of late), so these could make a nice starter set. I’m including a PDF version sized to fit perfectly on 3 x 5″ index cards.

As you can clearly see here, donating plasma is a great way to make $30 while reading a magazine in a comfy chair. It is also a great way to waste hours of your life with only the most delectable of Penn State students. So, any way you slice it, BioLife is a great career move.

At least it’s not prostitution…yet.
